1930s English Arts and Crafts
After living with a stark Danish modern kitchen for 15 years, our clients were ready to add drama and color to this room while also keeping to its 1930s English Arts and Crafts heritage. They also wanted to make the room feel less cramped without adding to the house’s square footage or the budget’s bottom line.As with many period homes, refrigerator placement was our primary layout issue. Because this house was designed when compact “monitor top” refrigerators were widely used, a full-sized refrigerator dominated the limited space, making it feel cramped. We solved the problem by moving the appliance and recessing it into the rear of a hall closet on the opposite wall. It now fits into the profile of the surrounding cabinetry and appliances.
