1905 Henry Hahn House
To maintain their luster, historically significant houses require an equally significant attention to detail. We restored this 1905 Tudor-influenced Craftsman, featured in Classic Houses of Portland, with the same meticulousness found in its original design and construction. A careful and light hand-sanding removed finishes without disturbing the aged character of the wood. To match stain closest to the 100-year-old original finish, we identified areas in each room that had been least affected by sun, dirt, handling and cleaning. Missing decorative accents were custom-milled to match others in the home, as illustrated by the restored brackets in the entry hall, which also benefited from additional light sconces at the entry to the living room. In the upstairs bedrooms, we stripped newer wallpaper, skimcoated the walls and papered with a period-quality wallpaper. Finally, we restored functionality to the windows, replaced missing casement hardware in the entry, and stripped the upper landing’s woodwork of its white paint and restored it to its original finishes.
